These images are from the first attempt by Walt Disney to animate The Little Mermaid. After some major plot issues, Walt shelved the story for decades until it was revisited in the mid 80’s. I love that the statue of the prince was planned even in this early version of the story. It really shows that Ron Clements and John Musker wanted to make a film Walt would have been proud of!

Actually the statue is from Hans Christian Anderson’s story.
